Vollack was invited by the trust company IGEMET to take part in a competition to plan the EAdA’s new “House of Labour” building. The objective was to construct a university building with five upper floors and one basement level on a 2,000 square meter plot. As part of an acquisition study, nine architecture firms were given the opportunity to find the best possible solution for further
implementation. The aim was to design an environment that was representative yet was also welcoming and promoted learning. Important factors to consider were optimal use of space, environmentally friendly, economic execution and subsequent operation.
EAdA is a charitable foundation supported by the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), the German federal state of Hesse and the city of Frankfurt. It cooperates with the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and provides further education at university level without the need for a university entrance qualification. The development also
included a societal reorientation of the EAdA and relocation to the campus in Frankfurt’s Westend district.
