New face for Altas Copco EPS

With the Electronics Competence Center, an innovative hub for technologies related to electronics manufacturing was created at the headquarters of Atlas Copco in Neustadt an der Donau. The company is one of the world's leading providers of systems and equipment for dispensing, bonding, and potting applications. The architecturally distinctive building triples the company’s available space. The forward-looking new facility was constructed to the KfW 40 standard.
The building ensemble comprises approximately 4,000 square meters (43,000 sq ft) of space across two stories and is divided into three strikingly designed building cubes. Together with the existing building, their arrangement creates a central green courtyard. This Green Yard for employees and visitors, featuring an innovative photovoltaic façade, represents the new face of Atlas Copco EPS and demonstrates the company's forward-looking approach to resource use, energy, and well-being.

A total of 98 PV modules with a combined output of 38 kilowatt-peak and an annual energy yield of approximately 25,600 kilowatt-hours were integrated into the façade, harnessing solar energy to generate electricity. The interplay of light and shadow created by the modules can be experienced deep inside the building, making them a distinctive architectural feature.
Additional photovoltaic systems on the roof and carport complement the intelligent energy concept designed by Vollack for the client. With a further 710 PV modules installed across approximately 1,400 square meters (15,070 sq ft) and providing more than 300 kilowatt-peak of additional capacity, the systems will cover more than 87 percent of the building's energy demand. In addition, modern building services featuring heat pump technology and heat recovery contribute to an energy-optimized building operation.

LEED Certified and Awarded the Bavarian BIM Prize.
Vollack entered the Electronics Competence Center for the Bavarian BIM Prize and received the special “Rural Areas” award in the category “Cross-Disciplinary Use of BIM Models.” The BIM Prize aims to strengthen the digital transformation initiative, which also offers significant opportunities in the planning and construction sector for economically viable and resource-conscious building projects. In the construction industry, it is often regarded as the equivalent of Construction 4.0. The building was also awarded LEED Platinum certification.
