Corporate architecture.
For the laboratory Dr. Quade & Kollegen, Vollack designed and built a forward-looking corporate headquarters in Cologne-Ossendorf, combining administration, laboratory-related medical practices, and an on-site daycare center. The building’s materials, forms, and colors perfectly reflect the company’s identity in the spirit of corporate architecture.
The so-called “plasma ceilings” in the corridors, featuring abstract representations of blood cells, absorb sound within the spaces while combining aesthetics and functionality. The contrast between the sandstone-colored administration building with modern white aluminum façade elements and the ventilated perforated aluminum façade of the laboratory building in the company’s signature blue highlights the company’s versatility and agility. Depending on the weather conditions, the façade displays an elegant interplay of changing colors.
Optimal conditions.
An on-site daycare center is available for the company’s more than 200 employees, supporting a healthy balance between professional and family life. In addition, an underground parking garage with more than 130 parking spaces and an expanded charging infrastructure for electric vehicles provide excellent conditions for employees and visitors alike.
Resilient energy concept.
With a biogas-powered combined heat and power plant, heat pumps, and cooling systems, the laboratory establishes the foundation for the site's future development. A photovoltaic system installed on the roof complements the energy supply. As the laboratory is part of Cologne's critical healthcare infrastructure, a fully autonomous supply of electricity, heating, and cooling has been implemented. This allows normal operations to continue even in the event of a failure of public infrastructure.
The building's climate control system is designed to ensure that indoor temperatures do not exceed 24°C, even when outdoor temperatures reach 46°C, thereby maintaining the required conditions for laboratory analyses.
A modern ventilation and filtration concept supports high indoor air quality. Flood protection measures additionally safeguard the building during heavy rainfall events.
