Energy-efficient refurbishment: built philosophy.
Transparent architecture and open structures.
Where once dark, heavy wooden walls and massive escalators exuded the charm of the 1970s, bright daylight now floods into the interior of the BGV Badische Versicherungen building in Karlsruhe through a huge atrium. Only the concrete skeleton remains from the past. Today, 23,000 square meters of flexibly usable space for 300 employees is complemented by communication zones, conference rooms and a restaurant. The new main building is a visible sign of the intelligent combination of sophisticated architecture with a forward-looking energy concept - a milestone for BGV and the entire region.
Active contribution to climate protection.
The revitalization of the BGV Badische Versicherungen headquarters in Karlsruhe has created one of the most environmentally friendly office buildings in Germany. Architects and engineers of Vollack have created a unique position with this revitalization project. Energy consumption was lowered and carbon dioxide emissions reduced by 100 tons per year, an active contribution to climate protection. The company saved more than 15 million euros, as two of the four buildings are now rented out.
Excellent building.
The revitalized building was awarded the prize for exemplary building by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects.

Today, our headquarters shine from the inside out. The former small cubicle offices have become open office worlds. We gear our products to the needs of our customers. The building perfectly reflects our philosophy.“
Heinz Ohnmacht, former Chairman of the Board of BGV Badische Versicherungen, the regional and municipal insurance company for Baden and Germany
