Transparent Architecture and Open Structures

Where dark wood paneling and massive escalators once reflected the character of the 1970s, daylight now streams through a large central atrium into the headquarters of BGV Badische Versicherungen in Karlsruhe. Prior to the revitalization, the building was neither suited to cost-efficient operation nor to contemporary workplace requirements. That has changed fundamentally. The original concrete structure was retained, while 23,000 square meters of flexible workspace for 300 employees were created, complemented by communication areas, conference facilities, and a restaurant.

The new headquarters stands as a visible expression of the combination of sophisticated architecture and a thoughtfully designed energy concept, marking an important milestone for BGV and the region.

Revitalization with Measurable Results

The revitalization of the BGV headquarters in Karlsruhe created a modern office building that combines the existing structure with contemporary workplace requirements. The building's energy consumption was reduced, while carbon dioxide emissions decreased by approximately 100 metric tons per year. In addition, two of the four buildings were leased following the revitalization, resulting in savings of more than €15 million for the company.
